EU BACKS TANZANIA’S QUEST FOR DEVELOPMENT

European Union has, today, pledged continued support to Tanzania and promised to enhance its cooperation with the East African State.

Head of EU delegation to Tanzania ambassador Roeland Van de Geer made those remarks at the state house, during a courtesy call to President John Pombe Magufuli.

According to press statement released by the state house, ambassador Roeland commended President Magufuli for his good leadership, his determination to build strong economy as well as his commitment to good governance including fighting corruption.

On his part, President Magufuli expressed his appreciation for the continued support extended to Tanzania by European Union citing the recent budget support of Euro 205 million.

Notwithstanding the budget support, EU is also planning to offer Tanzania another Euro 1.2 billion to develop three sectors namely industry, agriculture and energy.

 “I am happy to see our cooperation is focused on addressing key issues touching our peoples’ lives.  I would like to assure you that the money will be wisely utilized so as to achieve the intended goals” the statement quoted President Magufuli.

President Magufuli told Ambassador Roeland that such generous support denote how excellent existing relations between Tanzania and EU are.
