ENG. GEORGE SAMBALI ACTING DIRECTOR GENERAL TANZANIA AIRPORTS AUTHORITY

The Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Prof. Makame Mbarawa has appointed Eng. George Isai Sambali (51), Acting Director General  of Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA).

According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication, (Transport Sector), Dr. Leornard Chamuliho, the appointment is effective 20th January, 2016.

Eng. Sambali takes over from the late Eng. Suleiman S. Suleiman who passed away on 18th January, 2016 while doing swimming exercises at Ferry-Kigamboni area within the city of Dar es Salaam.

Born in 1965 in Tabora region, Eng. Sambali holds Masters Degree of Science in Transportation Engineering (Transport and Road) from Netherlands that he attained in 2001 and BSc. Civil Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) attained in 1995.

 He has attended numerous local and international trainings in civil aviation and in 2015 was awarded a Post- Graduate Diploma in International Airports Professionals (AIP) under AMPAP program in Canada.

Also he holds a Diploma in Airport Engineering from Nanyang Technical University in Singapore and is a graduate of Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP) under ICAO and ACI. He also holds a Diploma in Airports Executive Leadership from Concord University in Canada.

Eng. Sambali who was employed by TAA in 2001 as a Manager - Design, Planning and Evaluation is registered with several professional bodies including the Engineers Registration Board (ERB), Institute of Engineers Tanzania (IET) and Forum for Rural Transport Development (IFRTD).

In 2012 he was appointed Acting Director of Engineering and Technical Services (DETS) and later from 2013 was working as Advisor to the TAA Director General up to 2015 when he became Acting Director of Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), the post he held until January 20, 2016 when appointed the Acting Director General of TAA.

Before joining TAA, Eng. Sambali worked as a Research Fellow on urban transport at the University of Dar es Salaam.
